Since the hotel is located in the historical building of Nikolskiye Ryady, in this article we will tell you in more detail what has been in its place since 1789.

Initially, it was planned to build a Naval regimental yard on a plot of land along Sadovaya Street between Fontanka and the Krivusha River in the 30s of the XVIII century. According to the Commission's plan for the St. Petersburg structure, barracks and administrative buildings of the Maritime Department were to be located there. Nevertheless, it was not possible to carry out the plan.

On October 29, 1787, a draft of the building was sent to the City Duma, which has not been preserved to date. The project was approved by Catherine II. In 1788-1789, the Nikolskiy Market was built in the northern part of the site. This place was considered convenient because of the proximity of two water transport arteries: the Catherine and Kryukov canals.

At first, the market was called "Ochakov" because its construction was completed on the same day as the capture of the Turkish fortress of Ochakov. The building was erected at the expense of the merchant society. Initially, the market buildings consisted of a number of identical sections — shops, each of which had a separate entrance and individual communication inside the shop between floors. The first floor was intended for retail premises, the second housed offices and warehouses.

The first large-scale reconstruction of the building began in 2013. 8 years later, in 2018, the idea arose to use the courtyard of the Nikolskiye Ryady with an area of more than 7 thousand m2 to implement a "creative project of citywide scale, interesting for both Peterburg residents and tourists. On July 8, 2020, the courtyard was opened as a public space for everyone.

In the first three months since the opening, more than 250 thousand residents and guests of the city have become guests of the Nikolskiye Ryady courtyard. To this day, the Nikolskiye Ryady building is popular.
